#3 - Calorie shifting.
You probably know that metabolism is everything. The higher the metabolic rate, the more calories your body burns. The more weight you lose. So not to keep your metabolism "sleeping", you have to wake it up somehow. To do that, you just "shock" it with some unusual things from time to time. This can be eating a lot less calories for one day a week, or eating completely different foods from the ones you eat usually, for one day a week.
